Gran Hotel Inglés

Table of Contents of the Gran Hotel Inglés

The Gran Hotel Inglés in Madrid is one of the five-star hotels in the Gran Lujo category. It is situated in one of the city’s most distinctive neighbourhoods, Barrio de Las Letras. The hotel is conveniently located close to some of Madrid’s most stunning tourist attractions. These locations include:

  • Santa Ana Square
  • Plaza de Cibeles
  • Prado museum
  • Madrid Botanical Garden
  • Puerta del Sol

The Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport is also about a 15-minutes drive from the hotel.

Furthermore, there are many shops, tapas, bars, restaurants, and run-down theaters on the streets that surround the hotel. Writers like Cervantes, Lope de Vega, and Quevedo lived in this area, and most theaters were constructed in courtyards at the end of the 16th century.

Décor and Style

The hotel underwent a complete renovation, maintaining much of its old charm while creating a modern, luxurious environment. With Art Deco elements and sensual fabrics in warm tones of burnt orange, teal, ochre, and silver, the new Gran Hotel Ingles has a glitzy 1920s feel.

With a study space and antique elements like the lobby’s columns, where there are a lot of caramel leather sofas to sit in, the decor draws inspiration from the history of the Gran Inglés. In addition, records and images show how the hotel has changed over time.

Facilities and Services

Although there is no denying the magnificence of this hotel, you will feel a personal connection as soon as you arrive and receive a warm welcome from every member of the hotel staff. The feeling that you are at a private club instead of a hotel will grow stronger the longer you stay there.

The Jet Lag Cure, which entails the use of cryotherapy ice cubes for facials and a massage, is one of the many luxurious beauty treatments available for men and women at Manuel de la Garza’s serenely exquisite Égoste spa. The gym is also fitted with Technogym machines and is open throughout the week.

Other facilities at the hotel include:

  • Restaurant
  • Swimming pool
  • Laundry
  • Bar
  • Room service
  • Wi-Fi
  • Airport shuttle
  • Car park

Rooms

Entering the hotel room, you will see a writing desk with a smartphone. This phone has all the details of upcoming events in the city to make it easier for guests to know which spots around the city to go to “where and when”, this makes a tourist’s experience in Madrid a lot more exciting.

The room has a kingsized bed with its backlit headboard and two chairs with a small rounded table across the bed. The air conditioning system of the room is also attached to the ceiling.

A kettle and coffee machine are also available, with a mini bar in the room that is stacked with various drinks like soda, beer, wine, and champagne. Unfortunately, all these drinks attract more charges outside the room fee.

Other features of the room include:

  • Bathtub
  • Flatscreen TV
  • A stool
  • A wall stand

Meals

At the Lobo 8 restaurant, you will see the kitchen staff with Chef Willy Moya at the helm.

The menu frequently changes in parallel with the seasons. However, it may have superb delicacies like Ibérico pork cheeks roasted in sherry for about $24, smoked sardine and pigs’ trotters for about $17, and chilled almond ajoblanco soup with pear sorbet.

It also ranks amongst Madrid’s best restaurants.

Want a beer with tapas at lunchtime? An afternoon coffee? Or a cocktail in the evening? Then the LobByto bar is the place to be. There are also “traditional afternoon” cocktails available.

Breakfast is served from 7 am to 11 am and costs the same to have it delivered to your room. The à la carte menu option includes:

  • Pancakes
  • Oatmeal
  • Huevos rancheros
  • Eggs Benedict and Florentine
  • Churros

A modest but superb buffet of quality goods is also available with smoothies and juices created from scratch.

Rating 8/10

The Gran Hotel Inglés is a classy establishment with excellent customer support and a convenient location for shopping.

It also adds an entirely new level of luxury to the Madrid hotel scene with its elegant Art Deco architecture, opulent rooms, great restaurant, and first-rate spa. Although some people might think the hotel’s budget rooms are a little too small.
